The Walker Branch research site is located in the
southeastern United States on the U.S. Department of Energy's Oak Ridge
Reservation in Anderson County, Tennessee, spanning across 100 ha.
Current projects investigate soil and precipitation chemistry and hydrogeochemical
topics to contribute to a greater understanding of how forest watersheds
function.
This information was gathered from web
resources, and through correspondence with Paul
Hanson.

| Spectrophotometer | a spectrophotometer is not currently in use at this site | - |
| Meteorological Tower (includes the use of a LiCor Quantum Sensor, a Kipp and Zonen Net Radiometer, a REBS Net Radiometer, and an Eppley, Spectrosun, and LiCor Pyranometers) | measures incident photosynthetically active radiation (quantum sensor), and incident shortwave radiation (LiCor pyranometer); the radiometer and one of the LiCor sensors are located beneath the canopy; the tower consists of a 44m tall stairway tower and two 33m triangular towers, with eight parallel pairs of cables mounted at seven levels throughout and above the canopy | average hourly measurements of all data are recorded |
| Deposition Monitoring Network | collects data on the chemistry of precipitation; wet deposition collectors trap precipitation for analysis of trace metal and major ion chemistry | ongoing since 1976 |
| Subsurface Weirs | hydrogeochemical transport through soils is observed by an isolated soil pedon and a subsurface weir; the soil pedon is placed at nine depths with solution samplers; a trench allows subsurface and surface flow to be measured in a tipping bucket rain gauge connected to a computer data acquisition system | average hourly measurements are recorded |
| Weirs | weirs are located at stream gauging stations to measure maximum and normal flows; weirs have water samplers to collect a sample proportional to stream flow | average hourly measurements are recorded |
