SUMMARY
metadata

The Wisconsin-Park Falls LTER is located within the Northern Highland Lakes District of Wisconsin in the United States.  The majority of this site's research is conducted at the Center for Limnology's Trout Lakes Station, spanning a 10km radius.  Their research goals are to perceive long-term trends in physical, chemical and biological properties of lake ecosystems, to understand the dynamics of internal and external processes affecting lake ecosystems, to analyze the temporal responses of lake ecosystems to disturbance and stress, to evaluate the interaction between spatial heterogeneity and temporal variability of lake ecosystems, and to expand our understanding of lake-ecosystem properties to a broader, regional context. Their research shows a focus on global climate change, expanding the evaluations of microbial processes, and making more detailed assessments of land-water interactions.
The Chequamegon Ecosystem-Atmosphere Study is another project at Park Falls spanning 14,000 square kilometers, unrelated to the Center of Limnology.  The purpose of their research is to provide a more efficient set of verification and supporting measurements for ASTER and MODIS products through the study of emissivity, land-surface temperature, and other variables.
